2010 Links to Literacy Golf Tournament

The Friends of the Library of Hawaii's Annual Links to Literacy Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at the Ko'Olina Golf Club. The title sponsors of this event are Marriott Resorts Hawaii and Ko'Olina Resort & Marina. See details of this event at the Friends of the Library of Hawaii website.

Keep Your Library Open!

Because of the downturn in the economy, the public library system, like other state agencies, has had to slash its budget. This has meant staff shortages, cuts in the materials budget, and decreasing service hours. Today people need the services of their public library more than ever as they look for employment, cultural activities, and keep in touch with friends and family. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation to your neighborhood library, please mail your check to: Office of the State Librarian, Administrative Services Branch, 44 Merchant Street, Honolulu, HI 96813. Indicate on your check which library you wish to receive your gift. Mahalo!

Who We Are

Our mission is to select and support the dissemination of federal information and related materials to supplement the general collection of the Hawaii State Library.

The Hawaii State Library was designated a selective Federal Depository Library on May 31, 1929. We provide a resource-rich environment for no-fee access to materials and resources published by the federal government that serves the State of Hawaii. The Federal Documents Section was independently formed on April 19, 1971 to accommodate the special collection and is located on the second floor of the Hawaii State Library.

Other Federal Depository Libraries within the Hawaii State Public Library System are the Lihue Public Library on the island of Kauai and the Kahului Public Library on the island of Maui.

This Section was designated the sole Patent and Trademark Depository Library in Hawaii, and for the Pacific area, on December 18, 1989. We have been a certified Passport Acceptance Facility since July 15, 2003 and a Hawaii State Data Center Affiliate for the Hawaii State Library since March 12, 2007.
